‘Informal’ Chilliwack school trustee candidate slate to be announced

A group of candidates for Chilliwack School Board have announced they will be putting together an informal slate ahead of the School Board District 33 trustee election in October.

The five trustee candidates will be revealed during an event on Wednesday (Aug. 26) at noon in the Sardis room at Chilliwack Coast Hotel.

The members of ‘Trustees for Change’ are described by Tera Procee, wife of current school board trustee Richard Procee, in a press release as “five like-minded but nevertheless diverse individuals who want to turn the page on the divisive spirit that has pervaded school business lately, reducing morale and distracting from the core functions of the board.”

Richard Procee was elected as school board trustee in October 2022 but has not announced if he will be running in the upcoming election.

“We are presenting a diverse and highly qualified group of candidates who are going to be campaigning on positive ideas to improve our schools and refocus our district’s priorities on the fundamentals: graduating students with solid numeracy, literacy and critical thinking skills,” wrote Tera Procee. “It is great to see local parents, business leaders and problem solvers on our slate. I feel confident this team will help School District 33 regain its focus and use its resources more efficiently.”
